Welcome home!

Welcome home!

A phrase which can have so many different meanings for us all, whether it’s walking in through our own front door after a hard day at work through to the welcome feel we get when we walk through the doors of our own church.

Through a special weekend on 6 and 7 July, we want to explore what ‘welcome home’ means to us. To help us do this, we will have the inspirational speaker Roman Doczyminski join us on 7 July.

But first we start the weekend – all being held at St Elizabeth’s School, Matlock Road, Belper, DE56 2JD – on Saturday 6 July with the opportunity to get together for an evening of dancing and socialising. And it’s a free event.

We’ve been lucky enough to secure The Revival Ceilidh Band for the evening. Even if you have two left feet, you will be able to take to the dance floor and enjoy a reel or two. You can also join in with our Parish Bake Off – see details below.

Please bring along your own refreshments and nibbles for the evening, including your own cups and glasses – this is so we can reduce the amount of single use plastic we use during the weekend. Water will be available.

Doors open at 6.30pm with dancing and music from 7pm. The evening will finish at 10pm.

On Sunday 7 July, doors open at 9.30am with the timetable for the day as:

10:00am Praise and worship to open the day
10:30am Sessions and workshops with Roman on the theme of ‘welcome home’.
There will be a break during sessions.
There will be activities aimed at our children and young people during this time.
12.45pm Lunch
1.30pm Music and further sessions and workshops with Roman
2.45pm Mass – note this is the only Mass of the weekend for the parishes
4pm Round up of day and close of weekend

Practical details

While we will be providing refreshments on Sunday, we ask that you bring along your own packed lunch. Perhaps even get together with friends and have a shared table.

While we will be providing tea, coffee, squash and water, we ask you bring along your own drinking cups. This is so we can reduce our use of single-use cups and plastics.

The day is designed for you to come along whenever you are able to do as we recognise we all have busy lives. If you can’t make the morning, please join us for lunch and the afternoon sessions and Mass. Or just join us for Mass.

If you need transport to the event, please contact John Craddock on 07973 655 819.

The event is free to attend.

About Roman

Parish Bake Off

We know there are some amazing bakers out there in the parishes, so please join us as we found out who will be crown ‘Bake Off’ winner for Belper, Duffield and Ripley. We will have our own Paul Hollywood and Pru Leith – even Mary Berry might make an appearance – to judge the entries for us.

Please email the parish to let us know you are entering and what your bake will be – it can be sweet or savoury. There are also sign up sheets at the back of each church.

We would ask you that, as the entries will be shared among people, that you list ingredients due to allergies.
